COMIC PROPAGANDA

COMIC PROPAGANDA

Comics in the 20th to 21th century, have often been used as a tool to unconsciously keep the audience in line of the social agenda, especially the young audience who are in love with super-hero fantasies.

UNITED STATES
In present day, the United States, with its military dominance internationally, tries to promote the idea of American military as a hero and the good "world police" who are fighting against the bad guys, often the economical and political rivals.  The graphic is often portrayed in the comic style; muscular and overly beautiful characters that are almost idealistically perfect as role models.

MARVEL
Marvel has been obsessed with propaganda messages and implemented them into their comics for children in the US and worldwide. The Avengers by Marvel comic, for instance, promotes a storyline with American heroes fighting abroad against the alien invasion or even sometimes, against the so-called evil terrorist and bad guys often from the 2nd or 3rd world countries, excluding the United States herself.

THE AVENGERS
Each member of the Avenger wears an outfit that is often unrealistic. Captain America for instance, wears a blue stripe battle suit that no one wears in the battlefield. However, the use of imagintive outfit attracts child audience to believe that the Avengers are heroes. Many of these character's personality involves unrealistically funny and humorous, even while fighting an intensive fight in order to reach out to the audience more easily. Moreover, some characters are non-Americans and non-humans like Thor (a god), Hulk (monster), and Natasha (an ex-Russian agent), to name a few. All these characters combined to promote that the avengers, are good guys, with support from other powerful non-human and non-Americans. Most importantly, these characteristics are purposely to attract children. The propaganda messages can, therefore, transfer directly to children worldwide and the image of America turns positive among them.
