COMIC VS MANGA

COMIC VS MANGA

Manga is the Japanese equivalent to comic books. However, there are some differences including the format, character and story.

FORMAT

The main difference is the format portrayal  mangas use the cinematic angles where each frame represents a snapshot of each action while comics are like graphic novels where dialogues and visual actions are not necessarily corresponded to stories and inspirational visuals like mangas do. Another distinction is the reading order; mangas are read from right to left while comics are the opposite. Also, most of the manga pages are usually printed in black and white while comics' are printed in full colour.  In terms of publication, manga normally published weekly whereas comics published monthly or twice a month.

CHARACTER

Excluding the outfits, the characters in manga normally involve physical transformations to stronger versions whereas those in comics normally stay the same. The outfits, on the other hand, usually remain the constant for manga while they develop in comics.

STORY

The manga story arc is longer than comic book story arc.
Comic book has a crossover within the same universe (like DC and Marvel) while in manga, there is no crossover within its universe.
